NWS issues tornado warning for Northwest Bexar County as storm system moves into San Antonio

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for a part of Bexar County that includes the Northwest portion of San Antonio.

“Tornadic thunderstorm is tracking into far northwest Bexar County,” the NWS reported over Twitter Saturday morning. “Along with the threat of an isolated tornado, damaging hail, straight line winds, and heavy rain are also possible.”

“Some of these storms could become severe overnight … producing very large hail, damaging straight-line winds and an isolated tornado or two,” meteorologists wrote in the forecast.

Severe storms are possible overnight across the northwest Hill Country and Rio Grande, where there is a threat of “an isolated tornado or two.” Winds may reach up to 60 mph.

Strong to severe storms are possible in Central Texas Saturday morning through midday.

Isolated pockets in the area may get about an inch of rain, according to the forecast.

Although there’s a chance of severe thunderstorms in San Antonio Saturday morning, they’re not expected to make a significant impact, and a gradual clearing will occur later in the day, according to the forecast.

Conditions are expected to improve on Saturday, though storms may develop again late Saturday afternoon in the Hill Country, according to the forecast.
